Building Bright Futures

Scoil Fhionáin, located in the picturesque town of Kilfinane, sits at the foothills of the Ballyhoura Mountains and looks out over the rich farmland of the Golden Vale. Our school was completed in 2012 and was renamed Scoil Fhionáin after St. Finnan who founded a Christian Community on the banks of the local River Loobagh, in the 7th century.

About Scoil Fhionáin

We currently have an enrollment of 134 boys and girls from Junior Infants to 6th class. We enjoy many extracurricular activities including music, a wide variety of sport and fitness and wellness activities as well as S.T.E.M. initiatives and projects. At our school, the use of I.T. is embedded as a teaching and learning tool and we continually research ways to enhance the child’s learning experience through technology.

We participate in the Active and Green Schools Programmes, Discover Primary Science and Junior Entrepreneur Programme and have received awards for these. We have won both the South Limerick Primary Hurling and Camogie Schools competitions. To date, we have won 5 consecutive titles since 2013.

About Scoil Fhionáin

We also have a strong tradition of music in our school. Our school choir sing at school-related events during the year. Every second year, we participate in the Limerick Peace Proms, a large-scale singing event at U.L. We have a school band directed by a local music teacher who also teaches all children from 2nd class upwards to play the tin whistle. Ballyhoura Comhaltas Ceolteoirí Éireann base their after-school lessons in our school which enhances the richness of the musical experiences available to our pupils.

We maintain a strong focus on a holistic approach to the education and wellbeing of all of our pupils. We strive to offer children as many opportunities as we can to allow them develop their individual skills and talents through a balanced approach to primary education.
