This September, Scoil Fhionáin welcomes an ASD Class called ‘Le Chéile’ in the school. This class caters for six pupils on the Autism spectrum and is currently set up in a spare classroom in the school beside our beautiful sensory room which we developed in the last year. We are thrilled to have this as a new addition to our school and we will be extending our ASD facilities with an extension to be built this year for the addition of a second class to be developed for an estimate of September 2023.
We currently have 6 pupils enrolled in our class, working with Mrs. Walsh and our fantastic SNAs Mary and Marie.
The fundamental function of our Le Chéile class is inclusion. The ethos and spirit of Le Chéile has well and truly been adopted by the whole school and fostered by the school community. We aim to offer an Autism specific learning environment within a mainstream school. This type of educational setting facilitates optimum inclusion as part of the school community with access to mainstream activities as appropriate.
